Our neighbors are the faces of RTP – the folks that welcome us into their homes and enable us to do purposeful work that improves not only the condition of their housing, but the communities where they live, and the safety and vibrancy of their daily lives.
Shawn and her husband, Kelley, bought their house in Homewood 18 years ago. She raised her three children here, took care of her husband as his health declined, and maintained the home the best she could.
Born a helper, Shawn naturally finds herself always helping others. “I like to help.” She cared for her husband for seven years.
“I always was…helping people. That’s always what I do. And I don’t do it looking for anything back even though…you’re giving and you’re giving and you’re giving and everyone’s taking but nobody’s replenishing. So this [the repairs RTP will do] kind of helps replenish because with what you guys are doing…my shoulders can come down now.”
If you are wondering how to help out your neighbors, RTP has a ton of ways to get involved!
